If you’ve had a conversation with a Tars chatbot, this article tells you everything you need to know about your data rights as someone who has chatted with a Tars bot.

As stated in our Privacy Policy, if you’ve used a Tars bot and submitted your personal data through that bot, the maker of that Tars bot owns this data and is responsible for this data. Tars only processes this data on the maker’s behalf.

This means that if you want to exercise any of your GDPR rights, you should contact the person or the organization that made this particular Tars chatbot. If this isn’t possible, we’ll do our best to put you in touch with the creator of the chatbot.

While the first thing you should do if you want to exercise your rights is contact the maker of the Tars bot, this doesn’t mean that we won’t help you!

If you’ve sent your personal data through a Tars chatbot, you can contact us. Give us authorisation to provide your contact information to the maker of the Tars bot, and we’ll forward your request to them. All you need to share is the Tars chatbot URL, so we can identify the bot and the maker.

We can’t guarantee that the maker of that Tars bot will accommodate your requests, but we’ll do as much as we can.

As a Tars Chatbot maker, here is what you can do to extract and erase your end user data :

User Data Extraction : If any of your chatbot users request a copy of their data, you’re quickly and easily able to send it to them. All you need to is export the user chat conversation data from the "Data section" of your bot's dashboard and send it over in a CSV format. Here is a detailed help doc on how to go about exporting the data.

User Data Deletion : If any of your users ask you to delete their data from our database, all you need to do is find that particular response in your bot's data section and hit delete. As soon as you do that, that user's chat history with the bot is deleted from our database instantly.
